Capacity Building of ASHA Workers in Water, Sanitation & Hygiene
JAMMU, DECEMBER 07-11-2014,
Communication and Capacity Development Unit (CCDU), Water and Sanitation Support Organisation (WSSO) Department of PHE, I&FC organised one day training programme for the ASHA workers for improving the knowledge and skills of ASHA workers who are a main members of Village Water Sanitation Committees (VWSC). VWSC are constituted at every village of J&K State by the Department of PHE which have a major role of Planning, Monitoring and Maintaining the water supply system, test the water from the source as well as at the level of beneficiary, maintain proper sanitation around the water sources and in the villages, and play a major role in fight against open defecation.
The first capacity building programme of its kind was organised at Sub District Hospital Akhnoor in collaboration with Dr. Sanjay Kumar Sharma BMO Akhnoor.
Dr. Narindar Bhatial, Executive Director, Communication and Capacity Development unit J&K State stressed on main objectives of NRDWP “To Save Potable Water on Earth, To Ensure Safe Potable Water To All & To Promote Total Sanitation”. The main role of Communication and Capacity Development Unit is to reach house to house, village to village and promote these objectives.
He further said that people’s participation is must and they have to come forward and make state free from open defection and use water judiciously.
During the training session various documentaries on Sanitation, Use of Water and how to Test water with fTK’s were exhibited. Whereas demonstration on the use of FTKs and hands on training on FTK’s were given more importance.
The capacity building of ASHA’s shall be taken up in all the districts of the State phasically.
