World Water Day celebrated in Poonch.


POONCH, MARCH 22: To celebrate World Water Day, an awareness program on this year's theme "Nature for Water" which was sponsored by CCDU department of PHE, I&FC was held here today.
ADDC Poonch, Abdul Hamied was the chief guest on the occasion, whereas Superintending Engineer Hydraulic circle Poonch presided over the function.
Speaking on the occasion, ADDC said that the district Poonch is bestowed with abundant water resources in the form of springs, glaciers, and rivers and need of the hour is to manage and conserve these water resources. He said that preservation of water bodies is social responsibility of everyone and we should use water judiciously.
The ADDC exhorted upon the PHE Department to work with more zeal to ensure the cleanliness of drinking water resources and provide safe and potable drinking water to the people.
He called upon all the participants to bring about positive behavioural changes regarding the sustainable use of water and asked them to educate masses from refraining throwing sewerage to fresh water bodies. He further added that the students can serve as ambassadors of change in this regard.
The speakers throw light on issues related with fresh water and asked the participants to encourage people to "look for the nature-based solutions like plantation, which can reduce floods, droughts and can increase the rain fall and replenish ground water supply.
Discussed was also held pertaining to various reasons that led to water pollution.
DY CMO, Dr. Shamim Bhatti apprised the participants about chance of spreading of diseases from contaminated water like cholera, dysentery, typhoid and polio etc.
