IEI Jammu Centre and CCDU Deptt. celebrates World Water Day – 2018 .


The Institution of Engineers (India), Jammu Centre in collaboration with CCDU, WSSO, Department of PHE, I&FC J&K Govt. celebrated “World Water Day” today on 22nd March, 2018 at Institutional Complex, Channi Himmat, Jammu by holding a Seminar on theme topic Nature for Water. The seminar was attended by a large number of Engineers & Hydrologists from various departments, organizations and Senior Engineers. Sh. Sham Lal Choudhary, Hon'ble Minister for PHE, I&FC Deptt., J&K Government graced the occasion as Chief Guest. Sh. M. Raju, IAS, Secretary to Govt., PHE and I&FC, Deptt., and Sh. Ramesh Kumar, IAS, Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation were the Guests of Honour. Er. B. B. Sharma, FIE, former Chairman, IEI Jammu Local Centre & Retd. Chief Engineer, Hydraulic Wing, J&K Govt. was Technical Expert on the occasion. The function was presided over by Er. Ravi Chanyal, FIE; Chairman, IEI, Jammu Centre & Er. K. K. Magotra, Executive Director, CCDU, WSSO, Department of PHE, I&FC J&K Govt.
10 Nos. technical papers on the theme topic were presented by Er. S. C. Thukral, FIE; Er. Kuldip Raj Sharma FIE; Er. P. K. Nanda, MIE; Er. B. L. Rawal, MIE; Er. Gopal Sharma, MIE; Er. Ranjeev Sawhney,MIE; Er. Vinod Kumar, MIE; Er. Sunil Seth, MIE; Er. Sachin Tickoo, MIE and Er. Mir Muneer Hussain on the theme topic Nature for Water. In addition to technical papers, Technical Experts Sh. Kanwar Pal Singh, Senior Scientist, Central Ground Water Board, Jammu; Sh. Yoki Vijay, Director, Central Water Commission, Jammu and Dr. Shahid Hussain, In-Charge School Health, District Jammu enlightened the audience on the topic.
Sh. Ramesh Kumar, Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation while addressing the audience advocated for adoption of very simple dictums in our day to day lives which can result into saving lot of water. He also assured to take up the issue of Rain Water Harvesting to be one of the prerequisites for passing of House Building Plans at Municipal level.
In his concluding remarks, Sh. Sham Lal Choudhary, Hon'ble Minister for PHE and I&FC Deptt, J&K Government said that it is responsibility of every individual not to waste or pollute water because water is precious resource. If we wish to leave clean and adequate water for our future generations, we need to save and preserve it today. Engineers being the main stakeholders in this cause have the responsibility to ensure that clean and safe water is provided to the masses on one hand and that the water resources are conserved on the other. He emphasized for adoption of nature based solutions to conserve water resources. He applauded the role of IEI Jammu Local Centre and CCDU for creating awareness among the masses for the cause.

Er. Vijay Sharma, MIE; Honorary Secretary conducted the proceedings of the seminar and Er. Gopal Sharma, MIE; AEE, CCDU presented the vote of thanks to the august gathering.
Er. Ashok Gandotra, Chief Engineer, PHE Jammu and Er. K. K. Gupta, Chief Engineer, DIQC, Jammu and other Staff of PHE, I&FC and members of The Institution of Engineers (India) were present.
